If you look at my desk during a normal video, everything looks clean. But behind the scenes? It’s a total mess of cables. Between my laptop, phone, and camera gear, I’m constantly dragging out cords, plugging things in, and then just shoving them into a pile when I’m done so they’re out of camera view.

I’ve been looking for a cleaner setup, and I think I finally found the ultimate solution: the Gitryin Modular Power Station.

This thing is a beast. The specific setup I’ve been testing features five individual 140-watt charging modules packed into one massive 700W base station. Here is my honest breakdown of how it actually works in day-to-day use, what I love about it, and a couple of things I think they could improve.

The Best Feature: Retractable, Magnetic Cables
The biggest selling point for me is how it handles cable management. Each module has a built-in Type-C cable that pulls out up to 31 inches.

It has a locking mechanism, so you don’t have to pull it all the way out just to get it to stay. You can pull it out to the exact length you need, lock it, and charge your device. When you’re done, you just give it a slight tug and it retracts right back into the base.

One really neat detail they included is a small magnet right at the tip of the charger. When the cable snaps back in, the magnet holds the charging head flush against the front of the station so it doesn’t just awkwardly dangle out. It keeps the front of the desk looking completely spotless.

It’s Completely Modular
Another massive plus is that you aren’t locked into one setup. Because it’s fully modular, you can mix and match. If you don’t need five 140W chargers, you can swap some out for smaller, less powerful modules depending on your needs.

Even cooler? You aren’t stuck using them only at your desk. If you’re traveling or heading out for the day and need a high-powered brick, you can literally slide one of the modules right out of the base station, throw it in your bag, and plug it directly into a standard wall outlet. It functions perfectly on its own.

On the bottom of each module, there’s an extra USB Type-C port for a secondary input. Just keep in mind that if you use both the retractable cable and that bottom port at the same time, it will split the power—you won’t get the full 140W out of both simultaneously.

Hardware, Cooling, and Safety
The build itself is incredibly clean. The front has a sleek finish, the top features standard AC outlets, and the main power switch is located right on the back.

Because pushing 700 watts can generate a ton of heat, Gitryin built four dedicated cooling fans right into the unit (you can spot the ventilation openings on the top and bottom).

Whenever I buy a power strip or a heavy-duty charging station, safety is always the first thing I look at. This unit checks out with a built-in 15-amp safety circuit breaker and thermal protection, so I feel perfectly comfortable leaving my expensive gear plugged into it.

The Downsides (What’s Missing?)
No piece of tech is perfect, and there are two things you should know before buying:

You’re charging in the dark: There are absolutely no digital screens or wattage indicators on this station. I’m used to my Anker units where I can see exactly how many watts are being pulled in real-time. With this Gitryin unit, you’re a bit on the blind side. You just have to trust that your device is drawing the power it needs. I really hope future versions include an OLED display to show individual module readouts.

The retraction learning curve: The retractable mechanism can sometimes be a little finicky until you get used to it. If you don’t pull it out just past its internal locking point before letting go, it won’t snap back in. It takes a couple of tries to get the muscle memory down.

The Verdict
Despite the lack of a screen, this is officially replacing my current desktop charging station. It completely cleaned up my workflow. My laptop came with a bulky 90W brick and an awkwardly long cord—now, I don’t even need it. One of these 140W modules easily outperforms it while keeping my desk looking sharp.
