In this comprehensive review, we delve into the KAXFREE Smart Fully Automatic Coffee Machine to see how it stacks up against other models on the market. Having used a Philips 5400 for over two years, I was eager to explore the features and functionality of the KAXFREE SF1 Max. This machine boasts a range of impressive capabilities, including both cold and hot milk frothing, as well as a cold brew option, setting it apart from many competitors. Let’s find out if it lives up to the hype.
The KAXFREE coffee machine features a user-friendly screen with a variety of selections, from Espresso to Americano and Cappuccino. The machine allows for extensive customization. For each drink, you can adjust the coffee cup volume and strength. Dive into even more settings to fine-tune the brew temperature (from 80 to 99 degrees Celsius) and espresso cup size. A handy favorite setting lets you save your personalized coffee recipes for future use. Navigating the simple menu reveals options like child lock, cleaning functions (brewer cleaning, milk froth cleaning, and filter activation), and the settings menu.
The maintenance options are thorough, including a milk froth system cleaning cycle. It takes its time to ensure a deep clean, which is essential since you cannot manually access the internal system. The brewing cleaning system and descaling cycle are similarly detailed, providing clear visual guides. The settings menu allows you to adjust key tones and display brightness. Connecting the machine to Wi-Fi and binding it to the app unlocks remote control functionality, enabling you to make coffee from your phone.
Examining the physical design, the coffee outlet is adjustable for different cup sizes. The drip tray efficiently collects coffee pucks and excess water and is easy to remove and clean. The milk tank slides in securely with a click. During operation, the machine stands out. The KAXFREE machine dispenses coffee without the dripping. This is often seen with other models. The coffee pucks come out dry, indicating proper extraction. The cappuccino features a lovely milk foam. The water temperature test shows accuracy, reaching 86 degrees Celsius when set to 90. The cold brew option produces coffee with a noticeable crema, similar to hot coffee, and tastes best when served with ice.
Compared to my previous Philips machine, the KAXFREE is more convenient to use. However, one drawback is the limited height of the coffee outlet, which makes it difficult to accommodate larger glasses. The milk frothing system is exceptionally easy to clean, with all components being removable. The package includes cleaning accessories to further simplify maintenance. Although I cannot open the machine to clean the internals, the deep cleaning options appear to be effective.
